Last time, I told you about the things that you can do to impress your boss. But before you do them you must first know if you have a good boss. Otherwise, your efforts will just be wasted. Here are some signs that you have a bad boss:

  • You do the things that he can’t do. Does your boss ask you to do things that he can’t accomplish? It can be really frustrating to work for a person who didn’t work his way into his position from the bottom up. Employees often find it difficult to take orders from someone who never experienced the difficulties of working up the ladder in an organization.
  • He takes all the credit. It was your idea to get the services of a good web hosting company, but he gave you no recognition for it. Imagine that your boss’s supervisor is looking through the work that you have done. As the supervisor views a project or report, he offers praise for a job well done.
  • He doesn’t do the things that he says. He always tells people in your company that he hates people who are late for work. However, you noticed that he’s always late. Some employers abuse their power and think that they are exempted from following the rules. While they have privileges, there is no excuse for tardiness, especially when it affects the operations of a business.
  • He asks you to cover up for something. Has your boss ever asked you to lie or to make up a report to cover for a mistake that he made? This is another sure sign that you should stop working for him.
  • He treats you as a scapegoat. There are times when things don’t work the way they should. If your superior likes to blame others for a bad outcome, then for sure he’s not a good one.

A good boss is also a mentor. He encourages your professional growth and would like to see you be a successful person in the future. A bad manager only sees you as a tool which he can use for his quest for personal glory.

As an employee, you should always do the right thing at all times, but you should also know what type of superior you have.
